(JUBA) – A drive to boost national revenue through better public communication has seen tax authority staff complete intensive training in Juba.
The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) finished a three day workshop on Wednesday aimed at sharpening the skills of staff who deal directly with the public. The training focused on helping citizens understand tax rules, how to register, and why paying taxes matters.
Sessions brought together teams from Taxpayer Education Services and Strategy, Research and Planning.
They worked on practical ways to explain tax obligations clearly, encourage voluntary payment, and widen the national tax base. The training ran from 23 to 25 June.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Commissioner for Strategy, Research and Planning Angelo Aguot Deng said the training was designed to give staff the tools to guide taxpayers and increase public awareness about tax obligations.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their daily work. “The knowledge you get, you need to take it and utilize it so that your taxpayers can know their tax obligations,” Mr Deng said.
A consultant from the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), Uwitonze Jean Paulin, said he looked forward to seeing the skills gained during the workshop turned into practical improvements within the authority:
“I can’t wait to see how SSRA is going to transform this into an actual journey that we have started to embark on.”
