(JUBA) – The National Ministry of Gender and Social Development has issued a renewed call encouraging women entrepreneurs and young girls across South Sudan to believe in their dreams, break cultural and structural barriers and lead change in their communities through education, innovation and solidarity.
In a statement titled “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs and Young Girls: A Call to Courage”, the ministry highlighted the critical role of women and girls in shaping South Sudan’s future, describing them as the “backbone of the nation.”
Despite ongoing challenges such as poverty, limited access to education, gender based violence and restrictive social norms, the message urged women not to give up but to step forward with confidence.
The campaign underscores several core themes, beginning with the message to believe in your dreams. Women and girls were encouraged to recognise the value of their ideas, talents and ambitions.
“Do not let fear or doubt hold you back. Believe in yourself and take the first bold step toward your goals,” the statement reads.
Another major theme is the need to break barriers. The ministry acknowledged the historical challenges women face in South Sudan, including cultural limitations and lack of financial support, but insisted that change starts from within individuals and communities.
“Challenge stereotypes, seek knowledge and push beyond perceived limits,” it said.
Women were also encouraged to support each other and foster unity. The statement urged women to mentor others, share experiences, and build strong networks that would uplift communities across the country.
“Together, you can create a ripple effect of empowerment across communities,” it stated.
Emphasis was placed on harnessing individual strengths, particularly resilience, creativity and compassion, which the ministry identified as essential tools for innovation and development.
“Use them to solve problems and contribute to your community’s development,” it added.
Education and skills development were described as vital paths to empowerment. Women and girls were encouraged to invest in learning in areas such as agriculture, technology, trade and the arts.
“Knowledge is a tool that amplifies your voice and opportunities,” the ministry stressed.
The call also promoted leadership among women, both within households and in public life. By leading with courage and integrity, women could inspire future generations.
“Lead by example. Show others that women and girls can achieve greatness,” the campaign stated.
The ministry acknowledged that South Sudan’s national journey has not been easy, with many regions still struggling with insecurity and lack of basic services. However, it urged women to view these challenges as opportunities for growth and transformation.
“Your perseverance is stronger than any obstacle,” it said.
