
Central Equatoria Swears In Mining Authority to Tackle Illegal Extraction/PHOTO CREDITS: CESGPU
(JUBA) – Central Equatoria State has sworn in the leadership of a new State Mining Authority as part of efforts to regulate mining activities and stop illegal extraction of natural resources.
The new authority has been tasked with overseeing mining operations across the state, enforcing legal licensing and improving environmental safety in the sector.
Officials say the move is aimed at strengthening control of natural resources and ensuring that mining activities contribute to development in South Sudan.
Honourable Dabe Francis Elisama Murye took the oath of office as Commissioner General of the State Mining Authority, while Honourable Taban Clement Oliver was sworn in as Deputy Commissioner General during a ceremony held in Juba.
State authorities directed the new leadership to work closely with the National Ministry of Mining and the State Ministry of Trade and Industry to guide policy and improve regulation of the sector.
Officials said the authority should also identify untapped mineral resources in Central Equatoria that could support development projects including schools, hospitals and roads.
In his remarks after taking office, Commissioner General Dabe said the authority will work to ensure accountability and effective management of mining activities for the benefit of the public.
The ceremony was attended by senior state officials, including the Deputy Governor, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Finance Planning and Investment, the Minister of Trade and Industry and community representatives.
