(JUBA) – The South Sudan Paediatric Association has held its first Annual Scientific Conference in Juba, bringing together more than 250 participants from across the country and abroad to discuss child health challenges and solutions.
The two day meeting took place from 5 to 6 September 2025 and was attended by healthcare professionals, government officials, international experts and academic leaders. The gathering marked a significant step in strengthening health systems for children in South Sudan.
The conference focused on integrated, data based approaches to maternal, newborn, infant and adolescent health. Experts exchanged experiences through six separate tracks that examined areas including immunisation, nutrition, disease prevention and paediatric research.
Organisers from South Sudan Paediatric Association said the event helped build collaboration and created opportunities for sharing best practices. Participants stressed that better outcomes for children depend on multidisciplinary work and the active involvement of communities.
Speakers also highlighted the need for innovation and cooperation across sectors. They said this was essential to tackle long standing gaps in health services, especially in rural counties where access to treatment remains limited.
The South Sudan Paediatric Association said the meeting was only the beginning of a series of professional engagements that aim to strengthen paediatric practice and health policy in the country.
