(YEI RIVER COUNTY) — The Yei Callers Peace Promoters (YCPP) has appealed to radio listeners and regular callers across Yei to use radio platforms to promote peace, unity, and positive community engagement.
The appeal was made during a meeting held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, where members discussed the role of radio callers in shaping public opinion and strengthening social harmony within the community.
Speaking during the gathering, YCPP Chairperson Asiki Moses said the group was formed to bring together regular radio callers, create a platform for sharing ideas, and encourage constructive discussions that can contribute to community transformation.
“This group was formed so that we, as regular callers, can unite and share our concerns together,” Asiki said. “Through radio programs, we greet one another, exchange views, and discuss issues affecting our communities. That interaction itself shows unity, and we wanted to make that spirit practical through this group.”
He noted that radio remains one of the most influential platforms in Yei, especially in connecting communities and encouraging dialogue on social issues, peacebuilding, and development.
YCPP Advisor Alex Sebit emphasized the importance of solidarity among members, saying the group also seeks to support communities beyond radio discussions.
He urged members to work together in supporting the families of two media presenters who recently lost their lives in the Luri plane crash.
“As regular callers, we asked ourselves what we could do for the people who have always served and supported the community through radio,” Sebit said. “That is why we organized ourselves to visit and stand with the families of the late presenters Vivian Nadenge Alfons and Mama Hawa Adams.”
The recent plane crash near Luri shocked many residents across Central Equatoria State and sparked an outpouring of grief, particularly within the media fraternity and local communities who followed the presenters’ work on radio.
According to Asiki Moses, YCPP was established on March 27, 2023, with the aim of uniting radio callers and promoting positive community engagement.
However, he acknowledged that the group had not been very active in recent years and is now seeking to revive its activities and expand its outreach across Yei River County.
