(JUBA COUNTY) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State has called on citizens, churches and government officials to work together to restore peace and stability across the state.
Speaking during a Sunday service at St. Stephen Parish in Kator, Juba, Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel said lasting peace cannot be achieved by government alone. He compared the partnership between the public, religious institutions and authorities to three stones supporting a cooking pot, saying one cannot work without the others.
He told the congregation that President Salva Kiir has urged leaders at all levels to unite people across Central Equatoria and reduce insecurity. He warned that crime among young people, theft, suicide cases and land grabbing are now among the biggest threats to peace in Juba.
The Governor asked parents to guide their children to avoid gang activity and respect elders, saying proper discipline should begin at home. He said land laws will be enforced more strictly to prevent people from taking property by force.
He also expressed concern about fighting in Greater Yei, blaming armed groups that continue to resist peace efforts. He asked them to stop using violence and instead join community dialogue.
Governor Mujung said peace cannot come only through prayers or waiting for divine intervention. He said people must act together to change their communities.
“I alone cannot bring peace to Central Equatoria. It needs all of us,” he told the parish.
The Governor was joined at the service by Cabinet Affairs Minister Lupai Satimon, Peace Building Minister Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado and Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon.
Local church leaders promised to support peace campaigns and encourage worshippers to avoid conflict.
