(JUBA) – South Sudan is stepping up efforts to build a safer and more inclusive digital space following high level talks in the capital.
Leaders from government, telecom companies, civil society and international partners met at the South Sudan Internet Governance Forum 2026. Their discussions centred on how to make the internet a tool for economic growth that protects all citizens.
A key focus was the need for stronger digital trust, better cybersecurity and clear data protection rules. Officials confirmed that the country has already passed the Cybercrime and Computer Misuse Act.
This law gives authorities the legal power to fight new forms of online crime. Work is also moving forward on a Data Protection Act, which aims to guard personal information and boost public confidence in digital services.
Speaking at the gathering, Mr Chol Mayen, Director of Research and Planning at the National Communication Authority, delivered a message on behalf of the Director General, Hon. Rizig Dominic Samuel. Mr Mayen stressed that building a digital future that is stronger and safer for all South Sudanese requires joint effort.
Delegates also examined ways to spread internet access, improve digital skills and ensure that technology helps innovation and social inclusion. They pointed out that tackling gaps in connectivity and knowledge is vital for national resilience.
The forum ended with a renewed pledge from all sides to work together.
