(JUBA) – Construction of the Ministry of Petroleum’s new twin tower headquarters along the Juba-Yei Road is in its final stages, with relocation expected within two to three months, the Undersecretary of the Ministry said on Thursday.
Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar conducted an inspection visit to the site on Thursday, accompanied by a delegation of senior officials. The visit was to assess the progress of construction works and review preparations for the Ministry’s move to the new facility.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Dr. Longar said he was satisfied with the progress. He noted that the majority of the construction and installation activities are now nearing completion:
“The project has made significant progress, and most of the remaining works are in their final stage. The new headquarters will provide a modern and conducive working environment for Ministry staff, enabling them to deliver services more effectively and efficiently.”
Dr. Longar said the new headquarters forms part of the Ministry’s wider efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery within the petroleum sector. He described the sector as a key pillar of South Sudan’s economy.
He acknowledged the continued support provided by the government, particularly the Ministry of Finance and Planning, for facilitating the successful implementation of the project.
The Undersecretary also commended the efforts of all contractors, consultants and technical teams involved in the construction works. He singled out the National Engineering and Consulting Company for its commitment and professionalism throughout the project.
“We appreciate the dedication demonstrated by all implementing and consulting entities that have contributed to bring this important national project to its current stage.”
According to Dr. Longar, the Ministry expects to relocate to the new headquarters once the remaining construction, furnishing and logistical arrangements are finalised.
He called upon Ministry staff and stakeholders to remain committed to serving the people of South Sudan and to support the growth and development of the country’s petroleum industry.
The Ministry had announced on Monday, 22 June, that final touches were being applied to the twin towers complex. It described the facility as a major upgrade that would give employees the space and technology needed to drive South Sudan’s oil sector forward.
