Dear fellow South Sudanese,
As we come together to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the independence of our beloved South Sudan, I extend my warmest greetings to each of you. This day is not only a celebration of our hard earned freedom, but also a time for reflection, gratitude and a renewed commitment to the values that shape our nation.
Fourteen years ago, we stood united, full of hope for a brighter future. We dreamed of a South Sudan where peace, justice and prosperity would thrive. Although we have made progress, we must also recognise the challenges that continue to test us. Nation building is a difficult journey, but it is also filled with opportunities for growth, reconciliation and healing.
As the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Sudan, we are called to be beacons of hope and agents of change within our communities. We must remember that our independence is not only a political milestone. it is a divine blessing that brings with it the responsibility to love one another, serve the marginalised and work tirelessly for peace.
In this spirit, I encourage each of you to reflect on our shared values of unity, compassion and justice. Let us build bridges across our differences and promote a culture of dialogue and mutual understanding. Our strength lies in our diversity, and through cooperation and respect, we can overcome the divisions that hinder our progress.
As we celebrate this day, let us also remember those who gave their lives for our freedom and those who still suffer in silence. May their courage and resilience inspire us to strive for a just and peaceful society where every South Sudanese can thrive.
Finally, I ask you all to join me in prayer for our nation. our President H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, our Vice President H.E. Dr Benjamin Bol Mel, the entire Presidency and the Cabinet of the Government of South Sudan. Let us seek God’s guidance as we walk this path together, believing that with faith and determination, we can build a South Sudan that reflects the love and grace of our Creator.
Happy Independence Day, South Sudan. May God bless you all, and may He bless our beloved nation.
In Christ’s love,
The Most Rev. Engineer Elias Taban Parangi
Archbishop of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and Uganda
President, Evangelical Alliance of South Sudan
