(DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania) – South Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security has paid a courtesy visit to the country’s embassy in Dar es Salaam. Clement Juma Mbugoniwia made the stop on the margins of the 19th East African Community Sectoral Council on Agriculture and Food Security.
The minister was accompanied by his delegation. He used the visit to acknowledge the dedication of the embassy staff and praised their resilience in representing South Sudan despite persistent operational hurdles.
He also lauded the team for their warm hospitality and their unwavering commitment to diplomatic service under challenging conditions.
During the meeting, the minister briefed the diplomats on the objectives of his delegation’s presence in Tanzania. He set out Juba’s steadfast dedication to regional collaboration in agricultural advancement and food security within the EAC framework.
The South Sudanese diplomatic corps received the minister’s gesture with clear appreciation. They described the visit as a significant morale booster and reaffirmed their resolve to continue serving their nation effectively from abroad.
In turn, the embassy officials provided the minister with an update on their current work portfolio. They also spoke openly about the major operational challenges that affect the mission’s daily functions.
The minister had arrived in Dar es Salaam on 29 June at the head of a high powered delegation from his ministry.
The team included the Undersecretary for Food Security, Dr. Michael Roberto Kenyi, the Director for Agriculture Field Crops Production and EAC Focal Person, Alfred Wani, and the Deputy Director for Planning and Programming, Angelo Joseph Lemor.
Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Ambassador Gloria John Mambia and other technical staff from South Sudan’s Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
The annual ministerial gathering is convened under the EAC framework. It serves as the main platform for synchronising regional food systems, standardising agricultural inputs
and tackling persistent challenges in nutritional security across the bloc. This year’s edition places a clear emphasis on deepening regional integration and boosting cross border agricultural trade.
Minister Mbugoniwia is expected to join fellow EAC agriculture ministers in high level sessions.
The sessions will review policies on intra regional exports, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and the elimination of non-tariff barriers that continue to hinder the free movement of farm produce.
