(AKOBO COUNTY) – The first humanitarian flight carrying essential medical supplies has safely landed in Akobo County, eastern Jonglei State, after nearly a month of delays.
The flight delivered critical health resources to support the government-led Health Sector Transformation Project and other health and nutrition initiatives.
Among the supplies were medical kits, including an Interagency Emergency Health Kit capable of serving 10,000 people for three months, priority medicines such as anti-malarial drugs, and 160 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food for children with severe acute malnutrition.
Officials say the delivery marks a key milestone in expanding access to essential health services and strengthening the resilience of South Sudan’s health system.
UNICEF and other UN partners coordinated the shipment, working closely with local authorities to ensure the supplies reached the intended facilities.
The Ministry of Health praised the efforts of all partners involved, highlighting the importance of timely and well-coordinated humanitarian logistics in reaching remote communities like Akobo.
Authorities said similar flights are expected in the coming weeks to maintain the supply of medical and nutritional aid across eastern Jonglei.
