(YEI/MOROBO) – The international medical aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has announced that it will extend the suspension of its operational activities in Yei River and Morobo counties until the end of October 2025.
The decision follows a six week security evaluation that began after MSF halted its work in August. The suspension was triggered when MSF staff and a health worker from the Ministry of Health were abducted in the area.
In a statement, MSF explained that the extension is necessary to allow more time to assess safety conditions for both staff and patients. The organisation said that while the suspension continues, it remains committed to resuming services once conditions are stable.
The pause in operations has affected health service delivery in the two counties. Local communities, already struggling with limited access to healthcare, now face even greater challenges.
The extended suspension is expected to continue until 31 October 2025. MSF emphasised that staff security and patient protection remain its top priorities.
