(KAJO-KEJI) – The Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, Hon. Wani Jackson Mule, has called on South Sudanese refugees originally from Kajo-Keji to begin returning home voluntarily, assuring them that the security situation has improved and that the county leadership is working closely with the organised forces to protect civilians and property.
Speaking during the funeral and celebration of life for the late Rev. Canon Yoasa Wurube Mogga on Friday 18 July 2025, Commissioner Mule said the last three months have witnessed relative peace across the county. He attributed this to increased cooperation between local leaders, security forces and persistent prayers from religious communities.
He urged interfaith groups to honour the legacy of the late Canon Mogga, describing him as a “Dictionary” for his wisdom and historical role in founding the Episcopal Diocese of Liwolo. Mule encouraged religious leaders to follow in the footsteps of Canon Mogga by advocating peace, resilience and the return of displaced families.
Brigadier General Henry Buri, the Army Area Commander in Kajo-Keji, also addressed mourners, publicly asking for forgiveness on behalf of the military for previous violent incidents involving undisciplined forces and anti-peace actors. He urged residents to engage youth involved in crime, encouraging them to abandon violence and reintegrate into peaceful society.
Mr. Inyani Moses, representing the business community, confirmed a noticeable improvement in local security. He pointed to the increased vibrancy of Wudu town, which now operates trans-night without fear, as evidence of a more stable environment made possible by cooperation between authorities and citizens.
Inyani also encouraged locals to apply faith based values in business and public service, arguing that ethical conduct rooted in spirituality would advance social cohesion and shared prosperity.
The event took place in honour of the late Rev. Canon Yoasa Wurube Mogga, who died peacefully on 9 July 2025 in Arua, Uganda, at the age of 89. According to family members, his death was due to complications from urinary retention, septicemia, hypertension and stroke.
The funeral became a platform to call for renewed peace and national unity, especially among the Kajo-Keji diaspora still living in refugee settlements in Uganda.
