(JUBA) – The Provisional Committee of the Council of Traditional Authority Leaders (CoTAL) met Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on Monday to outline plans to organise elections for the leadership of the body within six months.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Local Government and representatives of law enforcement agencies. The committee briefed the Governor on its mandate to oversee and coordinate the electoral process for traditional leadership structures across Central Equatoria State.
Members of the committee thanked the state government for the trust placed in them and said they would work closely with authorities to strengthen traditional institutions. They said the aim is to support peace, unity and development through accountable leadership at community level.
Governor Adil urged the committee to carry out its duties in line with the law and to ensure the process remains peaceful and inclusive. He said credible elections within traditional systems are important for stable local governance and sustainable development in Central Equatoria.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to conduct free, fair and credible elections, saying transparent leadership selection would help promote social cohesion and reinforce the role of traditional authorities in South Sudan’s governance framework.
State officials said cooperation between government institutions and traditional leaders remains key to maintaining stability and supporting grassroots administration across the state.
