(JUBA) – The community of Rejaf Payam in Juba County has met with the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, to congratulate him on his appointment and to present a list of urgent concerns affecting the area.
The meeting held on Sunday reflected the community’s desire for stronger engagement with the state government and a call for swift action on pressing issues.
Governor Mujung welcomed the delegation and thanked them for their visit. He pledged that his administration would address the issues raised, promising to work in partnership with local communities to find solutions. He emphasised that effective service delivery would remain at the core of his leadership.
“I came at a critical time, and we need to collaborate with a common understanding,” Governor Mujung said. “As a government, we will do our best and your concerns will be incorporated into the State’s action plan to meet the needs of our citizens.”
Among those present was the State Minister of Housing, Land and Public Utilities, Hon. David Morbe, who attended as a member of the Rejaf community. He expressed gratitude to the President for appointing Governor Mujung and pledged the community’s full support for the new administration’s policies. He urged the Governor to take firm measures to stop persistent land grabbing in Rejaf Payam.
“Our unity is the only way to address challenges in the State,” Hon. Morbe said. “When communities are divided, even the State government cannot be strong. Your Excellency, we have come to affirm our support for your leadership.”
The Rejaf community also presented a detailed position paper through Hon. Fred Lako Raymond. The paper highlighted key challenges including:
| Concern | Areas Affected | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Insecurity caused by armed cattle herders and gang groups | Gumbo and surrounding areas | Threat to lives, property and movement |
| Child abduction | Multiple areas in Payam | Fear and trauma for families |
| Persistent land grabbing | Entire Payam | Loss of community land and disputes |
| Unauthorized issuance of land tokens | Several localities | Confusion over land ownership |
| Poor health and education infrastructure | Across Payam | Limited access to essential services |
| Poor road conditions | Internal roads and Juba link | Difficulty in transport and trade |
| Lack of support for local farmers | Farmland in Payam | Reduced agricultural output |
| Need for rightful land allocation | Disputed areas | Prevention of illegal occupation |
The delegation stressed the need for more security deployment, improved roads and investment in public services. They also called for agricultural support to strengthen local food production and ensure economic stability.
One of the key proposals was for Rejaf Payam to be elevated to County status, a move they argued would bring services closer to residents and improve administrative efficiency.
