(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has called on its members in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State, to strengthen unity and mobilise support ahead of the 2026 general elections. The call came during a one day symposium held on Thursday at the SPLM House in Yei.
The event was officially opened by Emmanuel Taban Seme, SPLM Chairman and Commissioner of Yei River County, who welcomed over 200 participants. He described the gathering as a platform to rebuild trust, strengthen party structures and promote peaceful political engagement.
“This symposium is about unity, discipline, and preparing our party to serve the people effectively. We must move forward together as one family,” Taban Seme said.
Speaking at the event, Acting Secretary of the SPLM, Comrade Banja Noel, emphasised the need for resilience and avoidance of internal divisions. “The strength of the SPLM depends on unity among its members. Differences should not divide us,” he said.
Taban Seme assured party members that the SPLM is ready for the 2026 elections. He called on members to mobilise citizens across the county to join the party, stressing that wider participation would make the SPLM stronger and more representative.
Representing the SPLM Secretariat in Central Equatoria State, Comrade Ladu Kose noted that the party had started early preparations for the elections. He said mobilisation would extend from the state level down to counties, payams, and bomas, focusing on community-based engagement.
Kose explained that recruitment, membership card issuance, political orientation, and resource mobilisation were central to the strategy. “The SPLM is strengthening its structures from the grassroots so that citizens are informed and actively involved in the political process,” he said. He also called for unity and forgiveness among members, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s prospects.
Former SPLM Chairman of Yei River County, Aggrey Cyrus Kanyikwa, praised the current leadership and described Yei as a historical foundation of the SPLM. He urged members to remain courageous and not be held back by fear.
