(JUBA) – Governor Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel of Central Equatoria State met on Tuesday with the National Minister of Wildlife, Conservation and Tourism, Hon. Rizik Zakaria Hassan, to address concerns raised by communities in Tore Payam about activities in Lantoto Game Park.
Minister Zakaria said the talks focused on grievances from residents who have expressed dissatisfaction with the management of the park. He explained that both sides agreed to hold a joint meeting with the community to hear their views directly and work towards solutions acceptable to all parties.
The meeting also addressed the overlapping tax collection practices between the state and national levels in the wildlife and tourism sector.
According to the Minister, there was a clear commitment to improve cooperation and coordination between the two administrations, with the aim of avoiding duplication and enhancing efficiency.
Governor Mujung confirmed that the discussions had been constructive and that there was a shared understanding on how to move forward. He reassured the people of Tore Payam that their concerns were being taken seriously and handled in a way that prioritises dialogue and mutual respect.
The leaders instructed the Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Wildlife, Conservation and Tourism and the State Minister of Animal Resources, Fisheries and Tourism, along with their technical teams, to review the issues in detail.
They are expected to present a joint report with recommendations to both the Governor and the Minister.
While the meeting did not discuss specific figures, any changes in tax arrangements or park management could affect how resources are shared between communities, the state,and the national government.
The planned joint community meeting is expected to take place in Tore Payam.
