Yei Civil Hospital Receives New X-ray Machine

YEI RIVER COUNTY—For patients arriving at Yei Civil Hospital with broken bones, chest injuries or other conditions requiring an X-ray, getting a diagnosis may soon become less difficult.

On Tuesday, the hospital received a new digital X-ray machine donated by the Nzuri DAIMA Foundation, giving the health facility additional capacity to diagnose patients closer to home.

The equipment was handed over in the presence of Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo, County Executive Director Hillary Lokudu, County Health Department officials and representatives of the foundation.

The equipment is expected to reinforce access to diagnostic services at the hospital that was designated a regional referral hospital earlier this year.

Commissioner Malimbo welcomed the donation and urged health authorities to ensure the machine is properly maintained so it can serve patients for years.

He said the county government was working to ensure qualified health workers are available to operate and manage the equipment.

Simon Musoga, county health official, also thanked the foundation and said more health workers would need training to operate the digital X-ray machine effectively.

The hospital’s medical team also stressed that having the equipment is only part of the challenge.

Dr. Joseph Khemis, representing the hospital’s medical director, said the machine was in good condition but called for an experienced technical specialist to maintain it.

He also said patients should be able to access the service without discrimination.

Yei Civil Hospital serves not only patients in Yei but also patients referred from surrounding areas.

The donation comes as the hospital takes on a larger role following its designation as a regional referral facility.

Joseph Yengatu, representing Nzuri DAIMA Foundation, said the organisation was pleased to support the hospital and the wider community in Yei River County.

The foundation is also supporting education in the county, including students in nursing as well as primary and secondary schools, Yengatu said.
