Kiir Appoints Caretaker Government Officials

(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Tuesday evening appointed officials to serve in a Caretaker Government following the dissolution of the national government, a move aimed at ensuring the continuity of governance ahead of the country’s forthcoming elections.

The appointments, announced through a series of presidential decrees on the state owned television SSBC on Tuesday evening the 22nd, September, 2026, include ministers, governors, deputy ministers, chief administrators and senior government officials tasked with maintaining governance during the transitional period.

President Kiir appointed James Ngere Paciko as Presidential Adviser on Governance.

In separate decrees, President Kiir also reshuffled the leadership of several key institutions. Rizig Dominic Samuel was relieved of his position as Director General of the National Communication Authority and replaced by Eng. Gieth Kon Mathiang. He was subsequently appointed Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, replacing Amb. Moun Deng Ajuet.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ayiei Garang Deng was relieved of his position as Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority and replaced by Mosety Kat Monyngok.

The caretaker government will serve pending the conduct of national elections, which are expected to usher in a new elected administration.
