Kiir Swears in Caretaker Government Ahead of Elections

(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has sworn in South Sudan’s newly appointed caretaker government and called on officials to prioritize service delivery and work together as the country prepares for general elections scheduled for December.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony in Juba on Wednesday, President Kiir urged the newly appointed officials to move swiftly in addressing the needs of citizens and ensure effective governance during the transitional period leading up to the elections.

The President administered the oath of office to five categories of officials, including the Presidential Advisor on Governance Affairs, caretaker national ministers, caretaker governors of the ten states, caretaker chief administrators of the three administrative areas, and the Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority.

President Kiir described the appointments as the beginning of a new phase of public service, emphasising unity, responsibility, and commitment to delivering essential services across the country.

The caretaker government is expected to oversee the administration of the country as South Sudan prepares for its anticipated general elections in December 2026.
