Be Job Creator, Not Job Seeker, Yei Official Tells Youth

YEI RIVER COUNTY—The Executive Director of Yei River County, Hillary Ladu, is urging young people to start creating their own jobs instead of waiting to be employed by the government.

Speaking at a Peace rally on Monday at Yei Freedom Square, Mr Ladu noted that the government has limited positions to accommodate all young people, advising that youth should build businesses that employ not just themselves, but also others in the communities.

“Be a job creator, not a job seeker,” Ladu said.

He described Yei as one of South Sudan’s most fertile agricultural areas, with the potential to become a food basket for the country once displaced communities return home.

He said the county government is working to reopen payams that have been non-functional during the conflict, clearing the way for residents to come back and rebuild.

Mr. Ladu paired the entrepreneurship message with a call for civic participation, encouraging youth to vote in upcoming elections as a democratic way to shape the country’s leadership.

The county is home to people from different communities who have long lived side by side, he said, urging that people continue doing so.

“Let us continue in peace with our neighbors,” he said.

He closed by asking residents to carry the messages of peace and development back to their communities, thanking organizers and participants for turning out.

“Let God bless South Sudan and let God bless Yei River County,” he said.
