(Juba) – South Sudan has signed a new partnership with Nigeria’s top aviation school to support the development of skills in the country’s civil aviation sector. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), located in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The agreement follows a directive from President Salva Kiir Mayardit, underlining the government’s interest in improving the country’s aviation standards through regional cooperation.
A delegation led by the Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, Hon. John Woja Eliana, recently visited NCAT to explore potential areas of collaboration.
During the visit, the South Sudanese officials were shown around NCAT’s facilities and given an overview of its aviation training programs.
They expressed satisfaction with the college’s infrastructure, technical equipment, and the experience of its training staff.
The rector and chief executive of NCAT, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, welcomed the delegation and thanked them for choosing NCAT as a partner in aviation development.
Dr. Ismaila reaffirmed NCAT’s commitment to support South Sudan’s aviation sector, noting that the college has a variety of training modules tailored to fill specific skills gaps.
A catalogue of available courses was also presented to the visiting team to guide future training plans.
With the MoU now signed, both institutions are expected to move quickly into implementation. Training activities are expected to begin soon, with a focus on developing the human capacity needed to improve South Sudan’s aviation safety, management, and infrastructure.
The agreement marks a notable step for South Sudan, which continues to rebuild and modernize its institutions following years of conflict.
Air travel plays a critical role in connectivity across South Sudan’s vast and often inaccessible regions. Trained aviation professionals are essential to strengthening the country’s infrastructure and safety.
