
Nimule Hosts Consultations on Cross Border Trade/PHOTO CREDITS: National Trade and Industry Portal, South Sudan
(NIMULE, EASTERN EQUATORIA STATE) – The Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang Juuk, has chaired a high level technical and consultative meeting in Nimule to review operations along the Juba to Nesitu to Nimule trade corridor, a key route for imports and regional trade in South Sudan.
The meeting, held on Sunday, brought together senior government officials and trade stakeholders to assess challenges affecting the movement of goods and services along the corridor.
Participants discussed ways to improve operational efficiency, reduce delays, and address administrative procedures that affect transport and clearance.
Officials in attendance included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of East African Affairs, Mary Hillary Pitia, the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, William Anyuon Kuol, and the Executive Director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, Gloria Nyoka.
Others were representatives of the Eastern Equatoria State government, the Mayor of Nimule Municipal Council, the Commissioner of the Customs Division, members of the National Legislative Assembly Committee on Trade and Industry, and representatives of the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
Each department presented reports on challenges faced at border points and along transit routes, including documentation, inspections, and coordination between agencies.
The presentations included recommendations aimed at shortening clearance times and reducing overlapping procedures.
In his closing remarks, the Minister praised the participants for their openness and cooperation during the discussions.
He said the Nimule corridor plays a central role in food supply, revenue collection, and economic stability in South Sudan.
The Minister said the outcomes of the meeting would be compiled into a formal report and submitted to the Council of Ministers for review.
He added that the recommendations would support policy decisions on trade facilitation and border management.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry said it will continue consultations with relevant institutions to improve trade systems and support regional integration.
