(JUBA) – Menstrual health kits have been distributed to 250 pupils at Gudele West Primary School to help adolescent girls stay in class.
The South Sudan Red Cross handed out the kits through the Blue School Project, which is supported by the Swiss Red Cross.
The kits allow girls to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence so they can keep learning throughout their menstrual cycle.
Gudele West is one of 10 schools covered by the programme.
The effort aims to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every girl has the chance to stay in school and reach her full potential.
In a related development last month, the South Sudan Red Cross launched the Integrated Community Resilience Project, known as Pïïr Path, at an inception workshop in Rumbek.
The initiative is supported by the Finnish Red Cross and seeks to strengthen community resilience in Lakes State.
It covers livelihoods, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, disaster preparedness, peacebuilding and inclusion. Communities in Rumbek Centre and Wulu counties will be empowered to prepare for, respond to and recover from challenges.
The workshop brought together South Sudan Red Cross Deputy Secretary General for Programmes Christine Abina, Finnish Red Cross Country Manager Tapiwa Chadoka, representatives from State Line Ministries and other key stakeholders to align on the project’s implementation.
