(RUMBEK COUNTY) – A new community resilience programme aimed at improving livelihoods, health services, water access and disaster preparedness has been launched in Lakes State, with support from the Finnish Red Cross.
The South Sudan Red Cross Society officially launched the Integrated Community Resilience Project, known as Pïïr Path, during an inception workshop held in Rumbek this week.
The project will be implemented in Rumbek Centre and Wulu counties and is designed to help communities better prepare for, respond to and recover from social, economic and environmental challenges.
According to the South Sudan Red Cross, the programme will focus on strengthening livelihoods, health services, water, sanitation and hygiene, disaster preparedness, peacebuilding and social inclusion.
The organisation said the initiative aims to build stronger and more resilient communities by supporting local capacity and improving access to essential services.
Representatives from government institutions, humanitarian organisations and development partners attended the workshop to discuss implementation plans and coordinate activities for the project’s rollout.
Participants included officials from state ministries, representatives of the Finnish Red Cross and senior staff of the South Sudan Red Cross Society.
The workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders to agree on priorities, implementation approaches and coordination mechanisms for the programme.
South Sudan Red Cross Deputy Secretary General for Programmes Christine Abina attended the event alongside Finnish Red Cross Country Manager Tapiwa Chadoka and representatives from state line ministries.
The launch marks the start of what the South Sudan Red Cross describes as a multi sector initiative aimed at helping vulnerable communities build resilience and improve their ability to cope with future challenges.Discover more from Access Radio Yei News
