(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Health authorities in Central Equatoria State’s Yei River County say they have received a consignment of essential medical supplies from the National Ministry of Health after a nine-month drug shortage in the area.
Simon Musoga, the County Health Director, told Access Radio on Thursday morning that the assorted medical supplies delivered on Wednesday will help address common diseases affecting the local population.
He said the supplies will be distributed to seven functional government health facilities, as well as private health centers in both urban and rural payams of the county.
“We received a consignment of assorted drugs. This time, it was delayed for nine months, and we are very happy. I would like to inform the community that we now have drugs, and these will be dispatched to functional facilities in the town and in the payams,” Musoga said.
Musoga also appreciated the National Ministry of Health and its partner, UNICEF, for their support.
“My message to the Ministry of Health and our partners is that supplies should not be delayed because people are really suffering on the ground,” he added.
Earlier, residents in Tore Payam of Yei River County told Access Radio that their only primary health center remained non-operational due to a lack of drugs and medical staff.
The situation has forced residents to walk long distances in search of medical care, either to Maridi town or Yei town.
