(ENTEBBE / JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday held bilateral talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Entebbe, with discussions focusing on strengthening relations between the two neighboring countries.
The meeting centered on political and economic cooperation, regional peace and security and ways to deepen strategic partnership between Juba and Kampala.
According to officials, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in key areas, including joint border security operations, road and railway infrastructure development linking the two countries, power connectivity and mutual support on regional and international platforms.
The leaders also discussed cooperation on regional peace and security initiatives, underscoring the longstanding relationship and shared history between South Sudan and Uganda.
Meanwhile, President Museveni, in a statement posted on his official X account, said he had received President Kiir and his delegation at State House Entebbe ahead of a swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.
“I have received my brother, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, at State House Entebbe together with his delegation, ahead of the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow,” Museveni wrote.
He added: “I warmly welcome him and wish him a fruitful stay as we continue to strengthen the historic brotherly ties and cooperation between our two countries.”
The meeting highlighted the continued diplomatic and economic ties between South Sudan and Uganda, which remain key regional partners in East Africa.
