(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County and Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, on Friday last week convened a strategic meeting with party members at the SPLM County Secretariat headquarters in Yei, calling for unity, collective responsibility and stronger grassroots mobilization ahead of the party’s 43rd anniversary celebrations.
Addressing party members during the meeting, Commissioner Malimbo described the upcoming SPLM anniversary as a historic milestone that reflects South Sudan’s identity and liberation journey.
He commended President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the SPLM Chairman, for his leadership and also acknowledged Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony for continued support to party structures in the state.
Malimbo emphasized that development and stability in Yei River County require collective effort from all citizens, noting that sustainable progress can only be achieved through unity, mutual understanding, and practical action plans.
He said his administration will prioritize administrative coordination, community mobilization and strengthening party structures across the county as preparations intensify for the SPLM celebrations scheduled for 16 May. The event will mark the first official commemoration in the area after seven years.
Representing the Women’s League, Agness Kiden Taban welcomed the commissioner and praised party members for maintaining commitment despite existing challenges. She said women within the movement remain dedicated to advancing the party’s vision and promoting cooperation among communities in Yei.
From the Veterans League, Lasuba Nathalino reaffirmed veterans’ support for the party and urged greater participation of veteran members in party activities and community engagement programs.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Joel Nyalimo highlighted agricultural initiatives started by young party members as part of economic empowerment efforts. He also appealed to county authorities to address rising concerns over youth gang activities in parts of Yei.
Party official Khemis Ade Noah echoed concerns about insecurity linked to gang groups, saying the situation continues to affect local communities and party members.
Local officials from Otogo Payam also raised concerns over poor service delivery, particularly in education and healthcare, citing limited access to town due to numerous checkpoints and shortages of office furniture for local administration.
Meanwhile, Luwate urged the county chairperson to maintain close cooperation with local communities, stressing that strong relations with residents are essential for effective leadership and political stability.
County SPLM Secretary Ale Satimon called for intensified mobilization of party members and encouraged members to remain productive despite economic and social challenges.
He welcomed Commissioner Malimbo to the county party office and emphasized the need for collaboration among party members as the country prepares for future elections, while also recognizing the contributions of elders and women during the liberation struggle.
The meeting marked Commissioner Malimbo’s first official administrative engagement at the county party headquarters since assuming leadership, succeeding former county SPLM chairperson Emmanuel Taban Seme.
Party members described the gathering as an important step toward strengthening internal party structures and enhancing community engagement across Yei River County.
