(JUBA) – Governor of Central Equatoria State, H.E. Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, on Sunday joined worshippers at St. Thereza Cathedral in Kator, where he delivered a message on behalf of H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan.
The message emphasised the urgent need for unity among the people of Central Equatoria State to overcome the ongoing challenges facing the region.
Addressing the Bari language service congregation, Governor Mujung reiterated the call for peace, unity, and stability, stating that the responsibility for restoring order lies with all sectors of society.
“This is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders in the State,” Governor Mujung said, urging communities to work together to strengthen peace and prevent the return to violence.
He specifically called on the Bari community to remain united, underlining that internal cohesion is critical for progress. Mujung stressed that divisions within communities only delay healing and development efforts.
The Governor also appealed to parents to take an active role in shaping the behaviour and direction of their children, noting a rise in youth involvement in criminal activity and gang violence.
“Parents must take responsibility. Our children need guidance, or they risk being lured into gangs,” he warned.Addressing the issue of armed holdout groups still operating in areas such as Morobo and Yei, Governor Mujung advocated for local solutions and community led dialogue to bring fighters back into civilian life. He encouraged traditional and local leaders to take initiative in engaging these groups through peaceful means.
“I urge those still in the bush to return and participate in the peace process. Our future depends on reconciliation,” he stated.Mujung further called on citizens to embrace forgiveness, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence as foundational steps towards building a stable and inclusive Central Equatoria. The appeal also comes amid broader initiatives by religious and civil society groups calling for localised peacebuilding and reintegration across conflict-affected parts of South Sudan.
