
State Leadership Calls for Religious Support for Peace in Central Equatoria/PHOTO CREDITS: CESGPU
(JUBA) – Authorities in Central Equatoria State say cooperation with religious institutions will play an important role in promoting peace, reconciliation and social unity across the state.
The position was discussed during a meeting in Juba between the state leadership and representatives of the South Sudan Islamic Council. Officials said the discussions focused on encouraging messages of peace, hope and unity among communities.
Leaders of the Islamic Council briefed state officials on activities taking place during the Ramadan season and expressed their willingness to work closely with the state government to strengthen peace and development efforts.
Authorities said religious institutions remain important partners in promoting social stability and guiding communities on peaceful coexistence.
During the meeting, Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony conveyed his best wishes to the Muslim community observing the Ramadan period and recognised the role of the Islamic Council in spiritual guidance and peace building within Central Equatoria State.
In a separate development, the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation, Edmond Yakani, held discussions with the state leadership on social and development initiatives. The meeting focused on several issues affecting communities in the state, including the possible establishment of a Cooperative Societies Development Institute in Yei River County.
Officials said such initiatives could support community development and strengthen economic cooperation among residents in Central Equatoria and other parts of South Sudan.
In another message released by the state authorities, leaders also conveyed greetings to women across the state during International Women’s Day. The message recognised the strength, contribution and leadership of women in families and communities.
Meanwhile, the state government also announced further administrative changes in government institutions. Authorities said Richard Abujalang Lado was relieved from his role as Coordinator for Security Affairs in Terekeka County, while Charles Leju Alphonse was relieved from the same role in Lainya County.
In a related decision, Richard Abujalang Lado was appointed as a member of the Central Equatoria State Land Commission. Officials expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service and said the administrative changes took effect immediately.
Authorities said the engagements with religious leaders, civil society organisations and community representatives form part of broader efforts to promote peace, unity and development in Central Equatoria State and South Sudan.
