Smartphones Now Affordable Thanks to MTN/MTNSSD Portal
(Juba) – MTN South Sudan has launched a new promotion allowing customers to get the latest Samsung smartphones and pay in affordable installments through its “Berabera” deal.
The offer is aimed at making premium mobile devices more accessible to everyday South Sudanese consumers without needing full upfront payment.
The Berabera campaign, which began on Friday, is available at three MTN service points in Juba: MTN House CSP, Juba Town CSP,and Hai Cinema CSP.
Customers can simply dial *100*10# to start the process of selecting their desired Samsung phone model and arrange payment in manageable portions.
The term “berabera”, widely used in informal markets, means “bit by bit” or “small small” in local dialect, reflecting the essence of this flexible payment option.
According to MTN, this initiative is part of its broader mission to connect more South Sudanese to digital life by removing financial barriers to owning smartphones.
The promotion comes at a time when mobile connectivity and digital tools are playing an increasingly vital role in everyday life from education and business to communication and banking.
But with smartphones often priced beyond what most people can afford, especially as the South Sudanese Pound continues to struggle, flexible payment plans are seen as essential.
As of June 2025, the official exchange rate is SSP 4,650 per US dollar, while on the parallel market it stands at SSP 7,000 per dollar. That means a phone worth $200 would cost anywhere between SSP 930,000 to SSP 1.4 million, depending on the exchange rate used. For most households, such a price is far from reach without a payment plan.
Through the Berabera offer, MTN aims to make phones like the latest Samsung Galaxy models more affordable, even to students and small business owners. Once the code *100*10# is dialled, users are guided through a selection menu where they can pick a device and choose their preferred collection point from the three Juba based MTN stores.
Customers who visited the MTN store in Juba Town over the weekend said the offer has generated significant excitement, especially among young professionals and university students eager to own modern smartphones for both work and leisure. MTN staff say stock is moving quickly, urging interested customers to act fast before the devices run out.
The telecom giant has been expanding its footprint across South Sudan, introducing new digital services while supporting education and entrepreneurship through mobile technology.
This latest deal with Samsung is part of a broader partnership aimed at improving smartphone penetration and digital literacy across the country.
With a trusted brand like Samsung involved and flexible payment terms, many see this as a chance to upgrade without financial strain.
For now, the Berabera campaign is only available in Juba. However, MTN has not ruled out expanding the offer to other regions in the future, depending on demand and logistical readiness.
