(Juba) – MTN South Sudan has completed a 21-day campaign to bring internet access and digital tools to four previously unconnected communities: Mangaten, Gorom, Rerekat, and Sherikat. The company says the campaign, dubbed “21 Days of Y’ello Care,” aimed to reduce the digital gap in underserved areas and provide residents with tools to participate in today’s digital economy.
As a result of the initiative, the four communities now have solar-powered technology hubs, each equipped with internet access and charging stations. These hubs will allow residents to access online services, learn digital skills, and remain connected without relying on unreliable or expensive electricity sources.
MTN South Sudan also distributed 50 smartphones to selected household heads in the communities, enabling access to communication, information, and mobile money services. In addition to hardware, the company provided digital literacy training and introduced residents to MTN’s mobile money platform, MoMo, helping them understand how to use financial tools securely and efficiently.
According to MTN, more than 3,000 people have already benefited from the new services. The company says this progress reflects its wider commitment to digital inclusion, which it sees as vital for improving education, financial access, and opportunity in the country.
“When we bridge the digital divide, we enable financial inclusion, expand e-learning opportunities, and deliver hope to those who need it most,” MTN South Sudan said in a statement posted online.
The initiative also received support from the Government of South Sudan. MTN publicly thanked the government for what it described as “unwavering support” in helping implement the program.
