(JUBA) – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has issued a strict warning to all commercial airlines operating in the country, following reports that some flights were carrying more weight than allowed.
The Authority said such practices pose serious risks to passengers and crew and violate national, regional, and international aviation rules.
Airlines operating aircraft including the Cessna Caravan C208, Fokker 50, Antonov AN-72, and ATR-72 must follow weight and balance limits approved by the SSCAA and the aircraft manufacturer.
All operations must meet the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, including rules for the operation of aircraft and investigation of accidents and incidents. Airlines must also follow safety guidance from the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA).
The SSCAA warned that any airline found breaking these rules could face immediate action. Possible measures include withdrawal of the Airline Operating Permit or suspension of the operator’s licence.
The Authority stressed that safety is non negotiable and that Airlines must maintain proper load controls, train their crews, and monitor operations continuously to ensure full compliance.
Failure to comply will be treated as a deliberate breach of aviation safety rules and could lead to serious penalties under the SSCAA’s authority, according to the cicular.
Dr. Ayiei Garang Deng Ayiei, Director General of the SSCAA, confirmed the circular was issued on 23rd January 2026 and encouraged all operators to take the warning seriously.
