(JUBA) – A long standing border dispute among the communities of Yaru, Dora and Gwari villages has been referred for further consultation and legal processes. The contested area measures approximately 500,000 square kilometres.
Hon. Viato Wani Swaka, Minister of Housing, Lands and Public Utilities in Central Equatoria State, held a consultative meeting with the three communities on 24 June 2026 in Juba. The meeting was called to discuss and find a peaceful solution to their border issues.
The dispute over the contested area among the three communities has existed since 2017. Efforts to resolve the matter have not yet reached a final conclusion.
During the meeting, Hon. Viato Wani Swaka said the disputed area should remain pending until a proper resolution is reached through consultation and legal processes. He called for dialogue, unity, and peaceful coexistence among the communities.
The Minister urged the communities to look beyond the land itself and remember the brotherly relationship, shared history and peaceful coexistence they have maintained over the years.
He called on all sides to continue engaging in constructive dialogue to achieve a lasting solution that benefits all communities involved.
