
South Sudan ICT Staff Complete Digital Training in China/PHOTO CREDITS: MoICTPS
(JUBA) – Four staff members from South Sudan’s Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services have completed a public service training programme in digital expansion in Wuhan, China.
The participants were drawn from the Universal Service and Access Fund, a parastatal of the ministry, and from the Information Sector.
The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, met with the returning officials in Juba to receive their training report.
He commended the programme participants for their presentation and encouraged them to pass on the knowledge to their colleagues.
In a separate development, the Minister of East Africa Community Affairs, Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol, and the Minister of Roads and Bridges, Hon. Peter Lam Both, have discussed projects and programmes secured through the East Africa Community joint development initiative.
The projects cut across several sectors of development, including the fibre optic network, roads construction, transport, and cross border services. Among these projects are the Northern Corridor project, ICT and higher education collaboration opportunities.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of East Africa Community Affairs and Roads and Bridges, as well as undersecretaries including two from the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services.
The meeting took place at the offices of the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services in Juba.
Earlier, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny held talks with telecom industry representatives to address operational challenges facing the sector.
The Minister expressed the government’s commitment towards improving communication services as well as the digital economy and to supporting the industry operators.
Among those in the meeting were MTN South Sudan, Digitel Mobile Network, and Zain Telecom. Speaking after the meeting, Eng. Chol Mayen of the National Communication Authority said both sides agreed to work together in order to address mutual issues affecting the sector.
Operators released a press statement revising tariffs days after the meeting.
