(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Health authorities and aid agencies in Yei River County have agreed to boost Ebola preparedness, with a special focus on communities along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The commitment came out of a coordination meeting held in the county, bringing together health partners, county health officials and local leaders to review public health priorities.
Yei River County Director of Health Simon Mosoga told the gathering that two health partners had already stepped forward to support Ebola readiness campaigns across the county. He pressed all agencies to work closely with local authorities and to put the wellbeing of communities at the centre of their work.
Malteser International Project Manager Simaya Ladu James announced that the organisation plans to run a one day training for members of the Ebola task force operating in the county. The session aims to equip frontline responders with the skills to detect and respond quickly to any possible outbreak.
Health worker Achiro Paska Justin raised concern over a shortage of handwashing stations and sanitising supplies in schools and public places. She said better access to hygiene facilities would strengthen disease prevention and improve community safety.
Yei County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo urged health partners to deepen cooperation with the County Health Department, especially on staff training, capacity building and service delivery.
He thanked organisations already working in the county for supporting Ebola preparedness, particularly in border areas seen as vulnerable.
The meeting ended with a fresh pledge from county authorities and health partners to tighten surveillance systems and increase public awareness on Ebola prevention across the County.
