(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) — Authorities in Kajo-Keji County have intensified precautionary measures along border communities with Uganda to prevent a possible outbreak of Ebola, following confirmed cases in neighboring countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, prompting heightened alert in border regions.
On Thursday, the County Executive Council convened a health emergency meeting bringing together heads of departments, health officials, security organs and key stakeholders to assess preparedness and develop response strategies aimed at protecting the local population.
Commissioner Wani Jackson Mule emphasized the need for early preparedness, vigilance, and strong coordination among institutions and communities. He noted that although no Ebola cases have been reported in Kajo-Keji County or South Sudan, the county’s proximity to affected regions necessitates urgent preventive action.
“We must act now to minimize any potential risk,” Mule stated, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding public health.
During the meeting, the council resolved to strengthen health screening at border entry points, enhance disease surveillance systems, and intensify public awareness campaigns across all payams and bomas within the county.
Community leaders, religious institutions, youth groups, and local media outlets were urged to play an active role in educating residents on Ebola prevention measures.
The council also called on residents to remain calm but vigilant, encouraging them to rely on official health information and avoid spreading misinformation that could create unnecessary panic.
Anthony Akuga, representing the County Health Department, assured the council that health workers will continue community sensitization and preparedness efforts in collaboration with partners and neighboring authorities.
The meeting concluded with a strong appeal to all residents of Kajo-Keji County to cooperate fully with health officials and adhere to all preventive guidelines to protect the county from any potential Ebola outbreak.
