(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) -The Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, Wani Jackson Mule, has described the county as relatively peaceful but facing significant challenges in service delivery, particularly in infrastructure and healthcare.
Commissioner Mule made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), held on Wednesday at the County Headquarters. The UNMISS team was led by James Mugo and engaged county leaders on the prevailing security situation and key development priorities.
The discussions focused on assessing security conditions and strengthening collaboration between local authorities and UNMISS in promoting peace, stability, and community development.
According to Commissioner Mule, Kajo-Keji County remains stable despite broader national challenges. He credited the efforts of county leadership, organized forces, and local communities for maintaining law and order.
“Our county is stable, and our people are committed to peaceful coexistence,” Mule said. “We continue to work closely with security organs and local leaders to ensure that peace prevails throughout Kajo-Keji.”
The Commissioner noted that the improved security environment has allowed residents to carry on with farming, trade, and other socio-economic activities without major disruptions. He also acknowledged the support of development partners, including UNMISS, in fostering peace and reconciliation among communities.
Despite the relative calm, Mule raised concerns about limited service delivery, pointing specifically to poor infrastructure. He appealed to UNMISS to support the rehabilitation of Lubajo Bridge and the improvement of road networks across the county.
He emphasized that inadequate roads continue to hinder the movement of people, restrict access to markets, and complicate the delivery of humanitarian assistance and essential services.
The meeting also highlighted pressing healthcare challenges. The Commissioner called on UNMISS and other humanitarian partners to advocate for increased support to health facilities, citing growing pressure on medical services in the area.
For his part, UNMISS team leader James Mugo commended the county authorities for maintaining peace and stability. He reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to continued engagement with local leadership to address community concerns.
Mugo pledged UNMISS’ support for peacebuilding efforts and sustainable development initiatives in the region.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to strengthen cooperation in tackling security, infrastructure, and humanitarian issues for the benefit of residents of Kajo-Keji County.
