(CESGPU, JUBA) – Mr. David Kwaje, Head of Mission and National Coordinator of the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) in South Sudan, paid a courtesy visit to Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, the newly appointed Governor of Central Equatoria State, on Friday to strengthen cooperation between the regional body and the state government.
During the meeting in Juba, Mr. Kwaje congratulated Governor Mujung on his recent appointment and expressed IGAD’s commitment to supporting peacebuilding and development efforts in Central Equatoria.
Discussions between the two leaders focused on expanding collaboration, especially in areas that target youth and women empowerment.
IGAD plays a major role in regional peace and integration efforts and has been active in supporting South Sudan’s recovery from conflict and promoting drought resilience.
Mr. Kwaje reiterated the organisation’s readiness to partner more closely with state authorities to improve stability and livelihoods across Central Equatoria.
Governor Mujung welcomed the engagement, describing IGAD as a long standing partner in efforts to promote peace and inclusive development.
He thanked the regional body for its ongoing support and highlighted the state government’s intention to work hand in hand with IGAD and other development actors.
The governor said the focus on empowering young people and women aligns with his administration’s goals and will contribute to long term stability in the region.
He also praised IGAD’s role in the wider peace process in South Sudan and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening cooperation with regional and international stakeholders.
No specific financial pledges were made during the meeting, according to the press release by Central Equatoria State Government Press Unit (CESGPU).
