(JUBA) – The acting head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Guang Cong, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, on Thursday, 1 August 2025, to discuss continued cooperation between the UN and state government.
The meeting took place in Juba and marked one of the first high level diplomatic engagements between Governor Mujung and international partners since his appointment by the President.
During the visit, Mr Cong congratulated the Governor on his new role and reaffirmed UNMISS’s support to South Sudan’s peacebuilding efforts and state development.
According to a statement from the Governor’s office, the discussion focused on shared goals and the need for strong collaboration. Mr Cong outlined key areas where UNMISS is ready to support the State Government, particularly in peacekeeping, civil protection and institution building.
Mujung welcomed the gesture and thanked the UN Mission for its continued presence in the region. He also used the opportunity to outline his administration’s priorities. These include improving peace and security, promoting unity among communities, boosting socio-economic development and improving service delivery.
The Governor further emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, as well as the need to improve systems for disaster management, rehabilitation, and relief services, especially in areas affected by conflict and flooding.
UNMISS been active in South Sudan since 2011 to support efforts to build lasting peace in conflict prone regions. The Mission regularly partners with state governments to support community engagement, human rights monitoring and peacekeeping deployment in rural and urban areas.
