(MALAKAL, UPPER NILE) – Construction of the new SSBC Radio buildings in Malakal is set for completion by the end of September 2026, a development expected to boost civic education and public information ahead of national elections in the State.
The Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State and Acting Governor, Hon. Deng Akuei Kak, accompanied by senior state government officials, inspected the ongoing construction on Friday, 3 July 2026. The project is being implemented by Setac Engineering Firm.
During the inspection, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to closely monitoring the progress of the project. He said the work is important to the people of Upper Nile State.
He noted that the return of Radio South Sudan’s broadcasting will provide a vital platform for civic education, public awareness and the spread of accurate information to citizens, particularly with the country’s upcoming general elections.
According to Engineer Wada Henry of Setac Engineering Firm, the construction is expected to be completed and officially handed over to the State Government by the end of September 2026.
The radio station project comes amid broader efforts by the state government to maintain stability across Upper Nile State.
Earlier, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, the Deputy Governor returned 25 cattle stolen the previous week to their rightful owners. The handover took place in the presence of government officials and heads of the state security organs.
Addressing the gathering, the Acting Governor warned criminals against stealing people’s property. He stressed that the state government will not tolerate such crimes. He described cattle raiding as an alien practice in Upper Nile State and urged communities to unite in combating it.
He commended the security organs for recovering the cattle and arresting three suspects. He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting citizens, safeguarding property and maintaining stability across all 13 counties of Upper Nile State.
