(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has held a high level meeting in Juba with senior officials responsible for South Sudan’s economy to discuss plans for recovery and reform.
Those attending included Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel, who chairs the Economic Cluster, Minister of Finance Athian Ding Athian and the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr Addis Ababa Othow.
The meeting focused on the current economic pressures facing the country. Leaders discussed ways to stabilise the economy and rebuild public confidence.
They also reviewed preparations for the upcoming annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. South Sudan is expected to use the meetings to seek support for its financial reform efforts.
Officials at the meeting agreed to work together on a single plan to improve coordination with international lenders.
They said they are ready to apply policies that can help protect the economy against future setbacks.
The government said it aims to restore economic stability and encourage investment. It said this would help lay the ground for lasting growth and support the wellbeing of citizens across the country.
