(JUBA COUNTY) – Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has inaugurated the rehabilitation of the 175 kilometre Juba Mundri road, a key route linking Juba County in Central Equatoria State with Mundri County in Western Equatoria State.
The launch took place in Juba on Wednesday 25 February 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Governor described the road as an important link for residents of both states. He said it supports the movement of people, delivery of services and transport of agricultural produce between Juba and Mundri.
The rehabilitation works are being implemented by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan through its Engineering Field Office under a Quick Impact Project.
Governor Adil welcomed the support from UNMISS and pledged the State Government’s commitment to the project. He called on local communities and security organs to cooperate fully, including supporting the collection of marram needed to fill potholes along the road.
Juba County Commissioner Hon Emmanuel Tete Ezbon urged local chiefs to work closely with UNMISS engineers to ensure smooth implementation of the works.
According to state officials, the project is expected to be completed by 30 May 2026.
Authorities say the rehabilitation is intended to improve transport, increase access for humanitarian agencies and strengthen security along the corridor. The road is also expected to support trade in agricultural goods between Central and Western Equatoria, with wider benefits for South Sudan’s economy.
The Juba Mundri route is one of several key roads linking the capital to neighbouring states.
Improved road access remains a priority for state and national authorities seeking to boost trade, service delivery and stability across South Sudan, according to a statement from Juba County Press Unit.
