(JUBA) – South Sudan has carried out a high level inspection of its main standards laboratories in Juba as part of efforts to improve testing services and protect consumers, officials said.
The visit covered the Central Laboratory and the Metrology Laboratory, which are key facilities for product testing, measurement and quality control in the country. The assessment focused on current capacity, equipment and ongoing technical work.
Officials said the review is part of wider plans to strengthen the national standards system and improve service delivery. The aim is to ensure goods in the market meet required safety and quality levels, especially as South Sudan depends heavily on imported products.
Technical staff briefed the visiting team on laboratory operations, existing challenges and areas that require support. The discussions also looked at ways to improve efficiency and expand testing capability.
The inspection was led by the Executive Director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, Oiylang Dominic Kanuto, alongside senior technical officials. The bureau said the exercise is part of ongoing reforms to improve its work in standardisation, quality control and consumer protection.
Officials said strengthening laboratory systems remains key to supporting trade, improving product safety and building public confidence in goods available in the market.
