(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Yei Civil Society Forum has welcomed efforts by county and state authorities to address the ongoing cattle crisis affecting communities in Yei River County.
On Monday, 16 February 2026, Yei River County Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme announced during a press conference at the county headquarters that a security task force had been established to tackle cattle-related insecurity in the area.
Two days later, on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, Central Equatoria State authorities dispatched a security delegation to Yei River County to further address the crisis and oversee the implementation of a presidential order directing cattle keepers to return to their areas of origin.
Modi Arkangelo, Chairperson of the Yei Civil Society Forum, described the move as a positive step toward restoring peace and enforcing the rule of law.
“It is a welcome initiative from the government because when citizens cry and the government responds to issues affecting them, that means the government is accountable. I thank the county and state government delegation for addressing this matter. We want a delegation that delivers and provides results to the people,” Modi said.
Arkangelo urged the newly formed security team to meet the expectations of the local population and produce tangible results. He also called on community members to cooperate with security personnel by providing accurate and timely information to support decision-making.
The cattle crisis has raised concerns among residents, with many hoping the new security measures will restore stability and prevent further conflict in the area.
