(MOROBO COUNTY) – In a positive step toward community development, the Catholic Diocese of Yei, led by Bishop Rt. Rev. Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo, paid a formal visit to the Morobo County Commissioner’s office, marking a renewed partnership focused on education and social progress.
During a productive meeting with Commissioner Hon. Joseph Mawa, attended by the Salesians of Don Bosco priests on Monday, discussions centered on key development initiatives aimed at improving access to education in the region. Among the major proposals were the establishment of a senior secondary school and a ladies’ boarding unit in Morobo—projects expected to significantly benefit local youth, particularly girls.
The Church, through Bishop Alex, requested the county authorities’ support in securing land for these initiatives. The move is intended to prevent future land disputes, an issue that has affected other church properties within the Diocese in the past.
In response, Commissioner Joseph Mawa expressed strong support for the Church’s vision, assuring that the county government will facilitate the land acquisition process through proper documentation. He emphasized that these projects would enhance service delivery and bring much-needed educational opportunities closer to the community.
The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of collaboration and peacebuilding, calling for continued prayers for Morobo, which faced severe challenges during the 2016 crisis. He stressed the need for unity and encouraged peaceful dialogue as a way to resolve differences and strengthen social harmony.
The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, reflecting a shared commitment between the Church and local leadership to foster sustainable development, education, and peace in Morobo County.
