
The Ministry of General Education and Instruction has released the results of the 2024 Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) exams after a long delay that worried students, parents and schools across South Sudan.
(JUBA) – The Ministry of General Education and Instruction has released the results of the 2024 Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) exams after a long delay that worried students, parents and schools across South Sudan.
The exams took place between 2 and 11 December 2024. A total of 50,004 students were registered, including 29,353 boys and 20,651 girls, across 535 schools. Another 327 students were registered in commercial and technical sections at Juba schools.
Out of 48,079 students who actually sat the exams, 36,701 passed. This gives a national pass rate of 76.3 percent. However, 11,378 students failed, which is about 23.7 percent.
The Ministry apologised for the late release of results and said a new system will be set up to avoid such delays in the future.
Top students and schools
The best performing student was Murye Anthony Duku Toe of Haven High School, who scored 91.4 percent. Other top scorers included Bhor Gatbel Malual Luak of Juba Diocesan, Edmond Chobo Patrick of Model Secondary School and Ding Deborah Majok Akuol of Amonto Girls Secondary School, each scoring 90 percent.
The highest-ranked school was Amazing Grace High School in Jonglei State with a performance index of 85.2, followed closely by Darling Wisdom Academy (Pentagon) in Central Equatoria.

Subject performance
Students struggled most in Chemistry, Principles of Accounts and Arabic Language. Better results were recorded in Agriculture, Computer Science, Physics, Islamic Religion, English Literature and Citizenship.
The Ministry said it plans to train and recruit more teachers in the subjects where performance was weakest.
Commercial and technical sections
In the commercial section, Timon Wani Henry Yugu came first with 85.9 percent. In the technical section, Fatin Doka Michael Farjallah led with 83.5 percent, followed by Jackson Ladu Boda Onario and Patrick Agostino Kenyi Gwriet.

The Ministry thanked teachers, parents and education officials who worked hard to complete the examination process. Officials promised to improve exam management and raise teaching standards in the country.
