(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring unhindered humanitarian access across the country during high-level talks with Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.
The meeting, held in Juba on Monday, focused on the worsening humanitarian situation and the urgent need to deliver aid to vulnerable populations.
President Kiir assured the UN delegation that humanitarian agencies will have access to all affected areas nationwide.
The President emphasized that aid must reach internally displaced persons and communities impacted by flooding.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak, confirmed that the President directed the ministry to strengthen coordination with UN agencies and humanitarian actors.
Tom Fletcher described the discussions as constructive, noting that they addressed both national and regional humanitarian concerns. He welcomed the government’s commitment, stating that unrestricted access is critical to delivering life-saving assistance as needs continue to rise.
Fletcher’s visit to South Sudan is part of broader efforts to mobilize increased international attention and support for the country’s humanitarian response.
