(JUBA) – Vice President Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel has called on South Sudan’s lawmakers to serve with purpose, discipline and distinction, emphasising their responsibility to the citizens of the country.
During a meeting on Tuesday with the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly, Jemma Nunu Kumba, the two leaders discussed key national priorities and the importance of an effective legislative process.
Dr. Bol Mel highlighted the need for laws and reforms that are responsive to citizens’ daily needs and reflect the aspirations of the nation.
The Vice President reminded the Speaker of the message delivered by President Salva Kiir Mayardit last month during the official reopening of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.
He noted that lawmakers are not only custodians of law but also play a central role in building peace, unity and prosperity across South Sudan.
Speaker Kumba outlined ongoing efforts to maintain a people-centred approach in legislation, focusing on reforms that protect rights, promote development and improve the wellbeing of South Sudanese citizens. She emphasised that the Assembly continues to prioritise laws that have a tangible impact on communities throughout the country.
Dr. Bol Mel stressed that close collaboration between the Executive and Legislature is crucial for South Sudan’s development.
“When the Executive and Legislature work hand in hand, our country can achieve remarkable progress, from stronger governance and justice to economic growth and national cohesion,” he said.
