(TWIC COUNTY) – The Twic Mayardit Football Team has issued a public apology to its fans and the wider football community after a controversy involving donated jerseys erupted during a recent match.
The team’s leadership took to their official Facebook page to address concerns surrounding the use of jerseys that did not reflect the club’s identity, sparking frustration among supporters.
The incident occurred during the Warrap State Peace Tournament in Juba, where Twic Mayardit players were seen wearing jerseys donated by the tournament organisers.
Many fans were taken aback by the appearance of the team in unfamiliar kits, which they said did not represent the pride and heritage of the Twic community.
In their public statement, the team clarified that the decision to wear the alternative jerseys was not made by the club administration and was not a source of pride for the players. They acknowledged that the change undermined the identity and unity that both the team and its supporters have built together over time.
“To our loyal supporters of Twic Mayardit Football Team, we would like to apologise for the misunderstanding regarding donated jerseys by the WSPT President,” read the statement. “We now understand your frustrations seeing our players lining up to the pitch in shirts that were not ours.”
The message went on to express deep appreciation for the continued support from fans, emphasising that the players carry the spirit and hopes of the community every time they step onto the field.
The team also gave reassurance that the traditional white jerseys will return, promising that when they do, they will be worn with pride and sweat in honour of their supporters.
The apology was well received by many fans, who took to social media to express their understanding and continued loyalty.
